According to Petsinclude, the government of Romania is a semi-presidential republic with the President as head of state and the Prime Minister as head of government. The President is elected by popular vote and is responsible for appointing the Prime Minister, cabinet members and other government officials. The Prime Minister then forms the government and manages public affairs. The legislature in Romania is bicameral with an upper house called the Senate which consists of elected representatives from each county. This body has limited legislative powers, mainly related to economic and social matters such as taxation, labor laws, trade regulations and public education. Romania operates a multi-party system with parties representing a range of political ideologies from left to right. The current ruling party is the Social Democratic Party (PSD) which has been in power since 2016. This party supports economic growth through market liberalization while also providing social welfare programs to protect vulnerable citizens. Romania has been successful in reducing unemployment levels in recent years while also increasing investment in infrastructure projects such as railways, airports and roads. Romania has also invested heavily in renewable energy sources such as wind power and solar energy with an aim to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels while also tackling climate change issues. In addition to this, Romania has invested in research & development projects with an aim to improve technology standards across many industries. Romania has traditionally enjoyed strong and cordial relations with other countries in Europe and beyond. The country is a member of the United Nations and its associated organizations, and is also a member of the European Union (EU). It is also an active participant in international forums such as the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Romania has close economic ties with many European countries, particularly Germany which is its largest trading partner. The country also has strong relations with China, which has been investing heavily in infrastructure projects in Romania. Other important trading partners include Italy, France, Turkey, Hungary, Poland and Austria. In terms of foreign policy, Romania generally seeks to further regional stability through its participation in regional initiatives such as the Central European Initiative (CEI) and the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP). It is also actively involved in various peacekeeping missions around the world including those conducted by NATO and UN forces. Additionally, Romania supports multilateralism through its membership in various international organizations including NATO, WTO and OECD. The country also participates actively in global initiatives aimed at tackling climate change by committing to reduce emissions targets set out under the Paris Agreement.
