According to Petsinclude, Kosovo is a parliamentary republic, with the President as head of state and the Prime Minister as head of government. The President is elected by popular vote for five-year terms, while the Prime Minister is appointed by the Assembly of Kosovo and responsible for forming a government. The executive branch of government is headed by the Prime Minister and his cabinet. The legislative branch consists of one chamber: the Assembly of Kosovo. This has 120 members elected by popular vote for four-year terms. The judiciary branch includes civil, criminal and administrative courts, with a Supreme Court at its highest level. Kosovo has made significant efforts in recent years to promote democracy and human rights within the country. This includes introducing new legislation to strengthen freedom of speech and media freedoms, introducing anti-corruption measures, increasing public participation in policy decisions through local councils, and expanding civil society organizations. Additionally, Kosovo’s constitution guarantees basic human rights such as freedom from torture or cruel punishment, as well as freedom to practice religion without discrimination or persecution. Women’s rights have also been improved in recent years with increased representation in government roles including Parliament and Cabinet positions. Kosovo is also making strides towards improving access to education for all citizens regardless of gender or background. Kosovo is a small, landlocked country in the Balkans region of Europe. Although it is not yet an official member of the United Nations, Kosovo is recognized as an independent and sovereign state by 108 countries around the world. As such, Kosovo has established diplomatic relations with many countries and participates in international organizations. Kosovo maintains strong bilateral relations with its neighbors in the region including Montenegro, Albania, Serbia, North Macedonia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. In addition to these countries, Kosovo also has friendly ties with several other states including Turkey, United States of America (USA), United Kingdom (UK), Germany, France and Italy. The country has embassies in many of these states as well as consulates in several others. Kosovo is a member of several international organizations such as the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group (WBG). It also has observer status at the Council of Europe (CoE) and the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA). Additionally, Kosovo holds membership in regional economic organizations such as Central European Initiative (CEI) and Regional Cooperation Council (RCC). In terms of foreign policy, Kosovo seeks to promote peacebuilding initiatives throughout the region while emphasizing economic integration between its neighboring states. It supports regional cooperation initiatives such as Energy Community Treaty which seeks to promote energy efficiency measures among Balkan nations. Additionally, Kosovo works closely with international partners on issues related to human rights protection within its borders. In recent years Kosovo has made great strides towards becoming a full member of various international institutions including NATO Partnership for Peace Program and Interpol. The country also seeks to join important regional organizations like European Union’s Common Security & Defence Policy initiative.
