San Marino Industry
The stone that is mined and the cement produced in the country are utilized for its own construction industry. Otherwise, small companies and artisans dominate, among other things, manufacturing leather goods, textiles, furniture and ceramics, some of which are sold in the tourist market. The food industry includes, among other things, the production of olive oil and wine produced for export, as well as dairy products.
The economy is highly dependent on trade as both energy and most other commodities are imported. Most of the exports go to Italy. Trade statistics are included in Italy’s figures. Imports of goods are usually higher than exports of goods, but this deficit is greatly offset by the income from the service sector. San Marino therefore has steady current account surpluses.
