Foreign trade
The economy is highly dependent on trade as both energy and most other commodities are imported. Most of the exports go to Italy. Trade statistics are included in Italy’s figures. Imports of goods are usually higher than exports of goods, but this deficit is greatly offset by the income from the service sector. San Marino therefore has steady current account surpluses.
