Marshall Islands Religion
Freedom of religion is enshrined in the Marshall Islands constitution and is also respected in practice. A large majority of residents are Protestants.
Most of them belong to the United Church of Christ, originally an American community. There is also a minority of about 5,000 Catholics and a small group of Mormons. About a quarter of the population claims to be non-religious.
However, most residents are active Christians and Sundays are often devoted to prayer, high feasts and rest from work. Old beliefs that magic have in their places been preserved and mixed up with Christianity.
