Lisbon Top 5 Sights

Lisbon is a popular destination and has a very generous range of experiences. Sometimes that is exactly what makes it difficult, to decide what you want to do and see during your journey. A successful trip often has goodies from both food, culture, music and relaxation. If you travel with children, it is important to find something that the children can enjoy. Here are five of the best things Lisbon has to offer in terms of food, music, nightlife, child-friendly activities and relaxing beach hangouts for both surfers and families.

The best food market

Mercado da Ribeira is a gathering place for the world’s top chefs with their best recipes. It provides a guaranteed taste experience with specialties from both traditional and innovative Portuguese dishes and international cuisine. Here, both lunch and dinner can be enjoyed with a good glass of wine or beer. Feel free to round off the evening by feasting on dessert or fresh fruit. Mercado da Ribeira has something for all taste buds, even for those who are picky.

Fado – Portuguese blues

A form of Portuguese music that reflects Portuguese culture, its identity and history is Fado. Fado is experienced as the best in its home area, of course live. Fado can be experienced in two different ways, “adega” is a real concert with professional artists, often with a traditional dinner and wine in addition, for these events usually require booking. Those who feel a little more spontaneous can go to a “tasca” that works more like an “open mic” evening, where anyone – known or unknown can
perform. Tasca usually does not require pre-booking.

Nightlife in Lisbon

According to countryvv, Lux is one of the largest nightclubs in Lisbon and one of the co-owners is actor John Malkovich. The nightclub, which runs in a nice retro style, also attracts a lot of celebrities, so there is a chance that you will see a glimpse of a star. There are both dance floors with awesome DJs but also a more relaxed section with alternative music. During the weekend, the queues can be quite long so it is important to be out in time to get a chance to enter the club.

Fun for the kids

Visit the Parque Infantil do Alvito – kids will love it. A playground on three floors, pirate ship, swimming pool and slides for all ages. The playground is located in Monsanto, also called “Lisbon’s lungs” which is a national park in the city. This is a perfect place to relax and take a break from the city while the children play and why not take the opportunity to walk in the national park for a while. Nearby there is also a cafĂ© with good coffee and goodies to keep up the energy level, or why not enjoy a cold beer or a glass of wine in the bar which is also close to the playground.

Beach slope in Lisbon

When it comes to beach hangouts in Lisbon, all you have to do is pick and choose from a whole host of beaches. There are beaches for both the surfer and the family with children. Take a day trip of it all and pack the picnic basket with goodies and go a bit outside the city to one of the beaches there, or take a few relaxing hours on one of the beaches you reach by public transport just over a quarter of an hour from the city.
