Boonton has a total area of 2.4 square miles, with 0.1 square miles being water. The town is mostly flat with some rolling hills in certain sections. The highest point in Boonton is the intersection of Main Street and Boonton Avenue at 464 feet above sea level.

History of Boonton, New Jersey
Boonton, New Jersey is a small town in Morris County that was originally inhabited by the Lenape Indians. The first European settlers arrived in the area in 1715 and the town was officially established in 1867.
The town’s original name was “Boone-Towne”, named after Captain Daniel Boone who had served in the French and Indian War. In 1829, Boonton was incorporated as a township and later changed its name to the current spelling of Boonton.
During the 19th century, Boonton became a thriving industrial center due to its location on the Rockaway River which provided water power for factories and mills. In 1836, the Morris Canal opened, connecting Philadelphia to Jersey City via Boonton and allowing for easy transport of goods from one city to another.
