The town has a population of about 1,200 people and is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. It is approximately 30 miles south of Springfield and 50 miles north of Hartford, Connecticut.
The town was first settled in 1735 by settlers from Dedham and was incorporated in 1741. The name Blandford was chosen to honor Sir William Blandford who had been a major benefactor to the settlement’s first church.
